Wisteria Seeds

To Germinate: To germinate wisteria seeds, you need to scarify them (nick or file the hard outer shell) to allow for easier water uptake and then soak them in warm water before planting. Wisteria seeds typically take around 10-30 days to germinate. Soak the seeds in warm water for three days. Plant the seeds one inch deep in a pot filled with a well-draining potting mix. Place in a warm area. Water the seeds well initially, but then water sparingly. Once the seedlings have their second set of true leaves, transplant them to a humus-rich soil. You can mix equal parts potting soil and compost. Plant the seedlings outdoors in a sunny location with moist, well-drained soil.
Type of soil: Wisteria plants thrive in well-drained, fertile soil that is slightly acidic (pH 5.8-6.5). They prefer moist but not waterlogged conditions. While they can adapt to various soil types, adding organic matter like compost can improve soil fertility and drainage.
Fertilizer: 5-10-10, every spring. Wisteria, being a legume, can fix its own nitrogen, so focus on phosphorus and potassium. Look for a lower N number. This encourages flowers, not just a leafy beast.
